Biography
Born Barrie Phillip Nichol in Vancouver, British Columbia, Nichol was a pioneer in the Canadian avant-garde literary scene and made major contributions to the development of concrete and sound poetry. He is the subject of Michael Ondaatje’s 1970 documentary film Sons of Captain Poetry and he appears with the other members of the sound-poetry group The Four Horsemen in Ron Mann’s documentary Poetry in Motion.
